US EXPANDS MILITARY PRESENCE IN AFRICA

The US Pentagon is in a period of major restructuring, in particular regarding American military bases abroad. While enormous bases in Germany and South Korea are abandoned or detracted, new and more flexible bases are constructed or planned all over the world, in particular in the Middle East, Africa and Eastern Europe. In Africa, US bases are to focus on Uganda, Djibouti, Senegal and São Tomé and Príncipe, where flexible, small-scale "jumping off points" exist or are to be built. Bases are to cover all the world's regions where the US government is concerned over potential instability or terrorism, or simply wants to protect key resources such as oil. WHITE COUNTRIES SENDING "DEAD WHITE PEOPLES CLOTHES" TO AFRICA

A whole industry has cropped up around apparel that's been donated to charities located oceans away, imported throughout the African continent and then sold cheaply in African marketplaces. These low prices undercut local retailers and undermine the entire textile and garment business in Africa. The psychological—and, as a result, financial—blows of the used-clothing industry have been crippling. What seems to be carried over, along with the previously worn clothing, is that old-colonial mentality of "ours is better than yours," the often unspoken belief heralding all that is Western as superior, and all that is African as inferior.

Although Disney’s move in this sense was initially applauded, it is now getting a lot of heat not for the princess but for the male character. Prince Naveen of Maldonia, voiced by a Brazilian actor, is Tiana’s soul-mate and should, by all accounts, also be black – yet fans seem to think that he is actually one of the few white characters in the entire film.
